Stinky bras
 

My bras are really stinky and just regular washing isn't taking the smell away. (Yay, hot and humid summers. :rolleyes) I don't want to use anything too harsh that might damage the bra. Any advice?

Have you tried adding some vinegar instead of fabric softener?


or

Adding some baking soda to the wash?

or Maybe a little Borax into the wash cycle.

I would not combine those to the wash use only 1 or the 3 suggestions.

I do usually use Borax in the loads I am trying to combat stinky clothes.


I don't use fabric softener at all. Should I try vinegar in a soak?

You can add vinegar to the fabric softener cup and see if that helps. I am findind some of our synthetics start to stink after awhile :scratch I have been adding some peroxide to the wash and it does seem to help

I would first try adding a FULL CUP of baking soda to the wash and also fill the fabric softener dispenser with distilled vinegar.

If that doesn't help, this should get the stink out. I haven't had any problems with it damaging anything. It is not a bleach of any kind. The label does state that you can use it with or without clothing in the machine. https://www.amazon.com/Kleenite-Klee...ashing+machine

ETA baking soda is really good at removing body oils from clothing and bedding. :yes Not just an odor eliminator. So I think that's why I like it so much, it removes the cause, the stink trapped in the body oils.

If you do a search for detergents for performance fabrics (very similar to bra fabric) you will find a few.

Defunkify Active Wash
2Toms Stink Free
Sport Wash

Baking soda is cheap so it's worth a try.

Also, one other thing I forgot, letting them dry outside, especially in the sun. That's just amazing for getting rid of smells.

If you have hard water or you have used plant based detergent for a while and or you use plant oil based deodorant (as opposed to glycerin) **you need enzymes**

Seventh Generation Ultra Power Plus (has some emzymes) with additional borax to combat hard water build up in the synthetic fibers does ok. But this HEX stuff works better than anything I have ever tried and I have been combating stink build up in our laundry for like 7 years. :shifty

I am going to try the baking soda first, then I'll try the Hex if that doesn't do the trick. Actually, I might try the Hex anyway for my stinky synthetic clothes that I've had forever and still look fine but are starting to show their stink.
