What am I supposed to do? lieing

I was decluttering dd2's room last week and found an American Girl guitar in a case with her doll things. We'll go with that she accidentally brought him home from her friend's house last weekend when she brought her doll and some of her AG things.

I looked last night and now the guitar case is empty!

Both my girls say they do not know where it is, both boys too. No one has been here, one of my children took it out!

I just searched dd1's room, going to finish searching dd2's room. I forgot to check back packs this morning.

I wish last night I had said when you find it there will be no questions asked.

This is not like them. What do I do???

I could offer $2 to whoever finds it and not make it about stealing. Help!

It was recommended to me to tell her if she can't find it then she'll need to do extra chores to replace it. She was responsible for it, whether she brought it home accidentally or not.

I like this. Yes, she is responsible for replacing it if it was lost. She also needs to tell the girl that she brought it home and lost it and is working to save up for a replacement.

My dilemma is always "what if I'm wrong", when I wonder which child did something, I usually am pretty sure which one it was.

In this case, what if the 12 yr old took it and hid it for her dolls? She said she has not seen it.

Aren't there a limited number of places this thing could be? I mean can't you just look through everything and see if she has it?

I looked all over both dd's rooms. Tonight dd1 found it in dd2's closet in this plastic 2 drawer thing we have in there. I had looked/felt around in there twice (it's in the corner). I either missed it or dd1 had it and put it there to say she found it. Either way we have it and it's on the counter under my keys to return tomorrow!

I had told dd2 that she'd have to do extra chores to work off replacing it and we looked up that is was $34.

Either way. Yay!

Glad it was found! AG stuff is expensive!

So now that it's been found, what's your theory on why and how it got there?

Sounds like time to have a talk about way to go about earning money for something you want so badly

I think dd1 had it and put it in the bin and said she found it. There's a small chance I missed it but I don't think I would have.

ETA: Except last night (or maybe the night before?), dd1 said she wants to get rid of her AG stuff but doesn't want to get rid of
her AG stuff. I think she still likes them but is outgrowing them. So maybe it was in the bin. :shrug
