crazy migraine elimination diet

Thinking of trying a diet that eliminates wheat, corn, nuts, citrus, onions, tomatoes, bananas, and apples. I read inFoods That Fight Pain that those are the most common triggers, aside from meat, milk, and eggs that I already don't eat. Has anyone tried this? Am I nuts? It would just be for two weeks to see if it helps, then gradually introduce the foods back one by one to see if I am sensitive to any of them.

You are not nuts. All those foods are prohibited during the cleanse period of the candida diet which is when my migraines finally stopped. More to say later when not on phone and ready to run out the door.

No, not nuts. I'd add chocolate to that list.

oh, yes, I was planning on eliminating chocolate, too.

One day down. It was hard. I ate rice chex and rice milk, potatoes with garbanzo bean gravy, asparagus, and thai spring rolls with pear sauce. I don't know if I can keep this up.

You're doing great! It's hard but will be worth it in the end. I'm cheering you on!

Have you done one? What did you find out? How did it go?

:hugheart I hope that helps. I had a roommate who got migraines from chocolate and onions. She did not even have to eat the onions, if she chopped them and smelled them it could do it.

How's it going?
It was hard to come back to this thread without being on a computer.

What helped us get through the cleanse/elimination diet was meal plan diligently. I mean every meal/snack for the entire week with a few alternates if I simply didn't feel like making/eating what was on the list for that day.

I actually need to do this again soon, probably mid May when I have a little more free time. I have had a few migraines in the last 30 days and it is not anything I want to invite back into my life ever again.

My migraines happen when I mess up my sleep cycles. Hope it helps.

I did this diet for about two days until I was at a museum that didn't allow outside food, I had a blood sugar crash, and bought a bagel. So what I have been doing, though, is leaving out the foods I suspect (tomato, onion, pickles) and following the same low fat vegan diet and my migraines are better. Not gone, but better.

I get all panicky when places don't allow outside food.
Glad you are seeing an improvement. :yes
