tomato pie *really is* smack your granny good
that is all. I'm just so enamored with it, after eating another leftover piece for lunch, that I had to say that to someone. just don't tell my granny :giggle
I'm this close to going back to the fridge and eating the last remaining piece. somebody stop me. |
Re: tomato pie *really is* smack your granny good
Never even heard of it. Is it all tomato in a pie crust?
|
Re: tomato pie *really is* smack your granny good
tomato, Vidalia onions, a little bacon, a lot of cheese, and a touch of mayo.
I mean, with an ingredient list like that, could you really go wrong? :yum |
Re: tomato pie *really is* smack your granny good
:yum
Don't go back for that last piece. Send it here. :shifty |
Re: tomato pie *really is* smack your granny good
I need more specifics. It sounds more like a salad. Do you cook it? Is it in a crust?
|
Re: tomato pie *really is* smack your granny good
it's in a crust, just like a regular pie. pics and (link to original) recipe here:
http://schmamy.blogspot.com/2009/08/...oh-my-yum.html I just discovered it last summer and it's only worth making with fresh, local, deep red summer tomatoes. so this is only like the 2nd or 3rd one I've made, ever. but oh am I making it again soon, even if it is a bit of a pain (if you make your own crust). |
Re: tomato pie *really is* smack your granny good
sounds amazing. :yes
I have a feeling roasted garlic and spinach would somehow sneak into mine- when I make it! :giggle |
Re: tomato pie *really is* smack your granny good
I have never heard of tomato pie or the phrase, "smack your granny, good..." :giggle Looks yummy though. Thanks for the chuckle too. :cool

Re: tomato pie *really is* smack your granny good
have to say, it SOUNDS good in theory...but highly doubt I'd like it. My husband, otoh, would probably gobble it down. Since we grow maters, I may have to try this once we start getting more ripe one's.
The tomato pic I'm familiar with (which I also do not like) is more like a pizza without the cheese so that's what I was thinking. However, with the bacon in your pie, I might just have to try a slice! |
Re: tomato pie *really is* smack your granny good
that sounds amazing!!
|
Re: tomato pie *really is* smack your granny good
don't get too attached to the idea of bacon...it really isn't very noticeable (though it would probably be good if you used more). the tomatoes really are the stars of the show...which is why I only make it in the summer.

Re: tomato pie *really is* smack your granny good
:ty2 The only tomato pie I've ever seen has eggs--more like a quiche. I'm not a big lover of eggs, so this is perfect :yum

Re: tomato pie *really is* smack your granny good
Sounds delish, and I LOVE the expression! :)
Too bad I'm the only one in my house who will eat "mundadoes" (as DD calls them)... |
