I wanted to try to make up a new burger tonight and my dh said that it was hands down the best burger he's ever eaten. :O I thought I'd share the recipe here. And if I share it here I won't forget how to make it next time. :doh

And please note: I measure nothing. ;)

Monterey Jack and Mushroom Burgers

1 lb. of ground beef
1 package cremini mushrooms, sliced thinly
Granulated garlic
Granulated onion
Salt
Pepper
2 TBSP butter
Worcestershire sauce
Monterey jack cheese, sliced
Whole wheat hamburger buns, toasted

Make ground beef into four burgers, season with granulated onion, granulated garlic, salt and pepper. Cook in skillet until desired doneness. When done, top with sliced Monterey jack cheese, with heat on low, cover the skillet with a lid to melt the cheese. Meanwhile sauté mushrooms in butter in another skillet until browned and slightly crispy, season with granulated garlic, granulated onion, salt, pepper and a splash of Worcestershire sauce.

Place burger patties with melted cheese on toasted buns topping with a generous spoonful of mushrooms on each. Enjoy!

YUM!!

I've tried making burgers before without the bread crumbs/egg to hold them together and they always fall apart. Is there a trick to getting them to stay together?

Hmm, I don't know a trick. I've never used bread crumbs or egg in burgers; I just use plain ground beef and I've never had one fall apart that I remember. I usually do higher heat at the beginning and sear them on each side. That might help to hold them together. And then I lower the heat to get them done in the middle.

Interesting! I always use egg in mine as well. I'll have to try it the way you described. :)

I didn't know that egg was commonly used in burgers. I've always thought they were a safe food for me at restaurants and people's houses, but maybe I need to be more diligent since I have an adverse reaction to eggs. :nails

Oh and I don't mess with them very much. I don't like working with raw meat so I don't manhandle them much at all. I use a knife to cut the ground beef into patty size pieces and then I quickly shape them with my hands and throw them in the pan.

Hah, so I went and looked and it turns out I lied, I don't use eggs in my burgers. I must have been thinking of my meatball recipe. I use this recipe (http://allrecipes.com/recipe/chris-bay-area-burger/detail.aspx) for my beef burgers and this one (http://allrecipes.com/recipe/salmon-rosemary-burgers/detail.aspx) (which does include eggs) for my salmon burgers.
