Toby (5) scratched TJ's (10) back this afternoon. The scratch site welted a LOT. As in, dh looked at it and said it looked like backscratch allergy test reactions. Toby's nails were not clean.

Any idea why it would welt so much? Suggestions for what to do for it? I put a healing salve on it, made from oil infused with comfrey, calendula, st. john's wort and plantain: beeswax, and lavender eo.

1. sometimes fingernail scratches do that. keep up with the salve. i'd clean thoroughly also.

2. it could be dermographia. i have it occasionally as i struggle with my silly immune system.

sometimes kid skin welts alarmingly- histamines rush to the damaged area and provoke swelling- that's part of the immune/healing response. :yes

and what DancingWithElves said. :yes

:ty3 The scratches are back to normal and stabbed over. It was so weird to see it welt/swell like that.
