Ds has decided he wants an Oreo ice cream cake for his birthday party and I've never made one before. Does anyone have a god recipe?

My mom's ice cream cake *always* has oreos. She uses them as the "crust". She uses a deep pan to make it. You fill the pan with the top of the cake first because you flip it out of the pan to decorate. So, first you do a layer of ice cream, about half the depth of the pan. Then hot fudge ice cream topping (or something else, if you're like my cousin who won't touch chocolate--hers always had lime gel :yuck). Then more ice cream. Then the crust--ground up oreos and, sometimes, a bit more hot fudge.

I like it when half the cake is chocolate and half is vanilla, but you could also use cookies and cream ice cream for at least one of the halves, along with the oreo crust. That's quite a bit of oreo. ;)

The hardest part of ice cream cake is icing it before it melts. :giggle My brother always wanted them, but June in Nebraska just isn't a good time to make ice cream cake. It was always liquid before it was even finished. I get ice cream cake for every birthday, even now. I much prefer it over normal cake.
