View Full Version : What color front door?

I really want to paint my front door a bright color but I can't figure out what color.

It's an old farmhouse, painted white with the paint badly peeling, silver metal roof, shutters on the windows are a dark faded forest green ( but you can barely see them b/c the camilia and holly are so overgrown), the small front porch was painted red but is faded and peeling - we'll probably repaint it at some point.

We also have big rose bushes in front of the house that have magenta and fuschia blooms and several boxwood shrubs as well, so lots of dark green around the house.

The front door is one of those that has the big window panel in the middle with the weird frame to make it look like it's 15 small panes instead of 1 (if that makes sense :think), so I want something really intense and bright.

I'd probably do cobalt or a goldenrod type yellow.

Cobalt would be good, or if you're really daring, a ruby red.

I :heart:heart:heart red doors but it seems like everyone with a white house around here has a red door. :scratch I definitely want something . . . .almost unexpected, if that makes sense?

Looking at the house, you see very little of the part of the door that we'llpaint so I want it very bright and daring. :yes

Here is my house (and yes, I know that the shrubs are horribly overgrown :giggle)

Does that need to be bigger?
:think

(Y'all see that little black rectangle on the window on the bottom right? That's our tv antenna :giggle. We can only get tv with a satellite or antenna and b/c the camillia is so big, we have to hang it out of our window to work.)

:think Hmmmm.....I think I still stand by my teal suggestion. Something like this.http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=Aj4HmQa55RK4xSA.zd659iWbvZx4?p=teal&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8&fr=yfp-t-900

I still say yellow. :)

My first thought was turquoise/teal. Yellow could be pretty, but I've seen a lot of ugly yellow houses, so personally I'd be afraid to try it.

I'd paint it green, or the color of the camellia blooms.

TARDIS blue. :yes

I'm absolutely painting the inside of one of my side doors (that has the same window panels as my front door) TARDIS blue. :heart

Did you decide? My vote is for a deep, bright yellow! I like the teal, but I think with the shutters it won't stand out as much in comparison for it to be a bright coloured front door.

I haven't decided yet! :doh We dont have any $ for me to spend atm but I still can't decide.

I kind of like this color but BRIGHTER

I don't know. I want something *really* bright and colorful, but with all the dark, muted green around my house and the lack of paintable surface on the door, I wonder if I'll be able to see much color at all. I love having a white house, but I do need some color!

This is really pretty too but, again, I'm not sure how it would look with my shutters

Can you paint the shutters as well?

That yellow door is amazing. Is that even real? lol. Look at those knobby crooked trees and arched brick. Looks straight out of a fairy tale.

Isn't that gorgeous? :melting I think I wouldn't even care what the rest of my house looks like if that could be my entrance.
