DH has been suffering with his ears, mostly his left for several months. In general I would say he has chronic ear infections (has been an on/off issue for a few years). He has been to his primary dr and now twice to an ENT. He has been through all the usual treatments, abx both drops and oral as well. Most recently he has recovered from a ruptured eardrum. They have vacuumed his ears and removed a lot of junk. He still cannot resist the urge to dig stuff out himself. For the past couple of weeks he has been excavating some really crazy stuff!! :hunh He has had thin tissue like layers of skin? black dusty stuff (mold?) :scratch and something i can only describe as black ear boogers :scratch. He says it looks like wet moldy paper towel...Oh and to top it off it smells like a wet dog!! (His words) I strongly suspect it is a fungal ear infection. He always struggles with jock itch and has a tendency to scratch absentmindedly. I know he is not running to wash his hands everytime he scratches and I wonder if he has passed the fungus to his ear by scratching it with unwashed hands...Or maybe all the abx treatments have left his ears good bacteria lacking and that has given the fungus free roam? It doesn't help any that he has tiny, hairy ear canals. Even the ent acknowledged that his ears are abnormal because they are so small. Seriously my 2.5 yo has ear canals the same size if not larger... So I am wondering how I could treat a fungal ear infection at home? Daily drops of coconut oil or mix in tea tree oil or breastmilk or what? I don't have much milk right now, only colostrum as I am about 6 weeks from delivery. I really don't know anything about using these natural treatments, but clearly the hundreds of dollars we are spending on specialist treatments are not very effective. Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated!!

I would do internal antifungal things like coconut oil and probiotics and garlic and then with ears try 3 drops of diluted peroxide (we do 1/2 & 1/2) in each ear for 3 minutes at a time. Then you can try the onion remedy using a sliced onion that has been microwaved until steamy and holding on outside of each ear so that onion vapors go inside. Also using olive oil drops that have had garlic soaking in it - not pieces of garlic themselves. Can also find those in health food type places. Baking soda is natural antifungal so having him do footbaths with warm baking soda water and then thoroughly drying feet and putting cocnut oil and sox on over

Poor guy! With what you described, I would be back to the ENT for some allopathic pharmaceutical treatment for fungal infection specifically which it sounds like he has not had yet. Also, I would persist in seeking out treatment for the jock itch too. I am no expert, but I would hope that wouldn't be something you have to live with.
