Can I save my stockpot?

I totally forgot that I was boiling pasta and all the water boiled out and the bottom of the pot is all burned with pasta lines in it. I have it soaking right now, but I know the last time I did something like that I ended up throwing the pot away. This is my brand new stainless steel pot, I don't want to throw it away. :(

Can I salvage it?

I've sometimes had success by putting dishwasher powder or liquid in with a bit of warm water and putting it on low on the stove. It seems to lift most things, then you will be able to tell if the pot itself is damaged.
