View Full Version : Would 7-10 year old boys like something like this?

I'm making towel wraps and wet hair wraps for my nieces this year. I was totally stumped for what to do for my middle elementary aged nephews (the baby ones are getting sock monkeys). Then I saw a jedi bath robe on Amazon and it hit me --Jedi-style hoodie towels and pool noodle light sabers! I'm worried a bit about it not being "cool" for them though, although I totally think it would be awesome. I want to make sure that someone else with boys this age thinks that it might be cool. I might could do the jedi symbol on the back of the hoodie towels. I'll just need to take some time with the applique. So, thoughts... :shifty

Thanks in advance,
Kelly

My kids are Star Wars fans, but not so much on a hooded towel/bathrobe. :no:shrug3

These particular boys are still into costume play, but they are all boy and like things that they can play in that are tough and will stand up to sword fighting. They also are part of a family of 8 children and so they share bathrooms space regularly and sort of need an assigned towel, but I want it to be something personal so it doesn't feel institutional to them.

I'm still not sure... :think

My 7.5 would LOVE it!! Of course, he likes the girls' princess hooded towel only because of the hood.

I think that's a great idea. Mine, (ages 6 & 8,) would love something like that, just for the novelty of it, even though they aren't huge star wars fans. I don't know if they would be thrilled immediately upon opening the gift...would probably regard it the same way they would clothes, and set it aside while they search for toy-gifts. :rolleyes But later, when they need to USE it, I think they would remember and be excited and it would be a favorite, or at least make a bath time more fun. :)

I think I'm going to go for it. I found pool noodles in the shed to make the light sabers. I'm going to take that as a sign. ;)

My boys, who are very boyish boys, would LOVE that. But like poleidopy said, don't be expecting a big "wow" moment. :giggle But every time it's clean, I bet they'll choose it over all other towels. :heart

I'm thinking of using some thin pvc in the center to give them a little more substance and make them less "noodly". :)

Um. My boys have these. They do not need pvc in them. Please, don't put pvc in them. :shifty

I was just going to say this. We like them because they don't hurt when you get wacked by them.

Well, I have the light saber supplies. I'm going to try to get them done this weekend, then start on the hoodie towels when folks go back to school next week. I'll post pics when they are done.

We had some noodle light sabers. They stay straighter if you cut the noodle in half or at least shorter so it won't be so floppy.

My boys are 7 and 5 1/2 and they would :heart a hoodie Star Wars Jedi towel. My 7 yo still likes to wear the puppy hoodie towel he got when he was a baby and pretend he is a dog after bath:shrug3

The hoodie towels are done except for the jedi insignia patch that I'm ordering from Amazon as soon as I have a little extra $$$. I'm hoping to do light sabers tomorrow. I'll try to post a pic when I'm all done. :)

I'm kind of tempted to make a noodle light sabre for my 18yo brother (a SW fan) as a gag gift...:shifty He would have loved this when he was 10!
