Using a humidifier?

How do you use one on a regular basis without making a room/house moldy?

Our house is so dry that it makes our throat hurt at night. We have a fairly newly built house that is mold free, so I have to get this place with some moister air very carefully. We have gas heat if that makes a difference.

Ive never had a humidifier get a house modly. We had one in each.bedroom and used it only at night.

I have never had mold problems from a humidifier, but we only use one at night when someone has a cold.

I really want a whole-house humidifier. Those have settings to make sure it doesn't get too humid, and they go in the hvac system so it really does humidify your whole house. They're a few hundred dollars, though, and then if you or dh isn't handy you have to pay to get it installed, too.
