Um...I've never done this before without a gas stove. What should we have on hand?

There is a storm coming in...I'm not worried too much about it, but it got me thinking about how I have no clue how to feed my family for extended time without still being able to cook:shifty

What do you recommend having on hand/ do you have on hand for storm prep?

(we are GF so that makes it so much more fun:giggle)

Candles and matches
Water
TP
fruit and dried fruit

Really, you can cook up anything and serve it for a couple of days if you keep the fridge shut. :shrug I have lost power about 3x since moving to VA, the worst for 8 and 9 days respectively. We started eating out in places that did have power because I needed to recharge my electronics. The first time we were also out of water for 2 days, which really sucked. I filled up both bathtubs and that's what we used for everything except drinking.

We have a generator, but before a known storm I bake muffins and bread to have on hand, so you could make some of whatever gluten free thing you normally eat.

Do you have access to a grill? That could solve a lot of problems.

ETA The frill obviously would be for after the storm is gone.

if you lose power, do you have any way to cook? fireplace? gas stove?

some non-food things to have on hand:
make sure you have your cars fueled up
charge up laptops and cell phones and other mobile devices
flashlights and batteries
candles / lanterns / matches
battery-operated radio
blankets
cooler with ice
some people fill their tub with water for flushing toilets
bottled water
canned goods that you can eat from the can if you can't cook
non-electric (hand operated) can opener
whatever healthy snacks your family can have (fruits, veggies, beef jerky, peanuts, peanut butter, etc)

games and / or cards can be fun to have on hand, too

will be praying for you, sweet mama :hug :heart
