Would it be possible to get a wedding dress altered without the person who needs to wear it being present?

I would have her measurements and all that.. Is this a pipe dream?

It can be done. You'd be shocked at how much guestimating goes into even professional alterations. Do you have a dress form? It would help a lot.

I would be taking it to a professional.. It's actually a surprise for the person who is going to wear it. :)

Oh, you'd have to ask the seamstress then. It would depend on what her comfort zone is.

:yes If she's any good. My mom is NOT a professional seamstress by any stretch, but she sewed all of my bridemaid dresses. One of them, she had measurements only and then my friend got to try it on the day before my wedding. Only a few minor tweaks were required.
