“The Basics Thread” is here for those of us, me included, that need help motivating ourselves to just get the basics done, like washing dishes and sweeping floors. 

Here is how it will work:

At the beginning of each week, you post a point challenge for yourself. No number is too small, I remember last fall when I started these things and I would challenge myself to just 100 points a day. Seriously - I’m not good at the basics, I told you! ;) I worked my way up and by the end of the challenge, my house was sparkly. :D I loved it because it helped me create routine and get accountability/support for the work I do at home.

So, you should set a goal for yourself. This part of it is NOT about competing with anyone else. If you meet your goal at the end of the week, and I figure out blinkies by the end of this week, you get a blinkie! :D I’ll make one for each week that says “This week I met my homekeeping goals!”. Why not reward ourselves when we do well?!

 I'll be working on figuring them out. Just haven't quite gotten it yet.

It may not be as much as another woman on the thread, but it is just as important to your family. GOOD LUCK on the upcoming week!

The second part of the challenge will run the entire course of this Basics Challenge, which ends in conjunction with the big cleaning challenge starting next week. This second part will be keeping a running score for each person in each category. (I like math - so I don’t mind doing all the adding and keeping it going). At the end of this basics challenge, whomever has the highest points in each category gets a blinkie to put in their siggy.

I'm keeping my goal at 3000 because I'm doing a bunch of non-cleaning housework this week (deck repairs, paint prep, etc.) But I'm adding a goal of 300 Decluttering/Hot Spots points since I conveniently neglected those last week. :bag

I'm back! I didn't post last week, and ironically, I got way more done. :scratch I wasn't on the computer any less, just didn't make it into this thread for some reason. :shrug Anyway, I would have had the same 1500 pt goal, and I did make that, without even counting the weekend points. :rockon

So goal this week will be for 2000. Oh! And you can put dh down for the leader in the ironing if you want. :giggle It was part of the points I didn't count on the weekend, but he was ironing things to wear to my brother's wedding on Sunday.

Since I just bought another 50 pounds of ground beef, I can expect some food prep points this week. :phew We'll see what else.

Oh, and I have to brag that yesterday, my island was cleared off, all the counters were clean, and only the jars that have been there for months were left to be washed. It was amazing! And then I had to cook again, and the moment passed. :sigh. But it was there. I saw it! It can happen again!

I'm going to keep my goal at 3000.
