So knitting friends- my sister's shawl (which is a 15 hr story in it's self) width is only measuring 17.5 in. preblocking- how much will blocking widen it? My concern is when I googled avg. shawl size- widths are 24 in- so I'm concerned it's too skinny now- and no I'm not frogging and starting over ;) so if blocking won't widen it much - should I add a border? Any ideas will be great :)

It is a lace pattern with 100% linen yarn :D

Check out my Pembroke: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/tatmom/pembroke-wrap

It's shown blocking on a queen-size bed :giggle

42 x 23 before blocking became 54 x 33.5

Blocking will help a ton. And even if it isn't 24", the narrow shawls have a lot of versatility. She can wear it scarf-like and it will look great.

Linen won't stretch a whole lot, but it will open up. And really, skinnier shawls are all the rage right now.

Thanks :) I haven't worked with Linen previously so I'm :scratch with the blocking

Maybe I will let it be and offer a border if she thinks it's too skinny :)
