I can knot make a french knot apparantly. Ugh. I am making this bookmark for ds - http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/nyan-cat-bookmark and I made the rainbow and the poptart, but could knot make french knots for the spots on the poptart. I finally made purple blobby things on it. :shrug3 and a few purple x's. Now I made the cat's head - the ears are not the same shape and I am not re-doing that now because who would have thought this would be difficult? And I have to put the face on. The eyes would be french knots again I suppose. :hissyfit I can knot dew it. Help me please. I looked at a video online of it. Did not work for me.
Dd says she wants one too and she has a request from a friend for a daisy bookmark like the one I crocheted for her yesterday. The daisy is much easier.
Any suggestions for my knotty problem?

Photograph tutorial instead of video?

(Or sew on small beads for the eyes instead of doing french knots?)

The tutorial did what I do which is really not a french knot but a small bullion. I can never get french knots to actually stay in. They always pull out or come undone leaving a not-so-attractive loop instead of tidy little eye. :doh

A bead would look really nice and is oh, so much easier to do. :hug

I went on and made the bookmark and will try making the knots from that photo tutorial and see if that works any better. When I did it, the whole thing just pulled through.

I think the trick is to not go back down in the same hole you came up in. hth With a true French knots, you are supposed to. I could never really make it work that way.

I can only ever do a french knot if I make sure not to put the needle back into the same hole I came up through - even if I have to split a thread to do it. Some fabrics are better than others, but on anything that stretches like crochet or aida, I have to split it.

Also, jealous of the crochet skillz because I would so make one of those for The Boy :giggle

I finished it and ds likes it and now dd wants one too. I will post the photo in the Sept. craft thread. I will practice the french knotting a bit though. I bet dd would like beads instead of the knots actually.
