Has anyone else ever tried this? DH's aunt was saying that last year her daughter in law just took the peaches straight out of the box, bagged them and put them in the freezer. When she wanted to use one she would microwave just for a few seconds so that the skin would slip off, and then have what was basically like a fresh peach.

This very much appeals to the lazy side of me, and we have a large freezer. Just wondering if anyone else has ever tried this and if it really is that great?

I've tried freezing peach slices, but not whole ones. I find they're not as sweet when they're thawed, despite being fully ripe and sweet when they're frozen, so I just don't do it anymore. I've never ever had frozen fruit taste like fresh.

I freeze peach slices too, and they work really well in smoothies and making a fruit dessert in the middle of winter. I don't get how freezing the whole peach would work. :think You micro for a few seconds, the skin comes off, but then you've got a big frozen hard peach with a pit in the center!

It's a lot of work to process the food in the fall, but I know it saves me the time when I go to make things in the winter. I appreciate that.

Go ahead and try and few and let us know how it works! :thumbsup

My grandma did this a couple years ago, and gave me some of them. What I do is run them under warm water for a few minutes and the skin literally slides off, it's pretty cool! (and if you're not washing them before freezing, you need to wash them anyway, right?). What I didn't like was that it was hard to cut through to the pit and cut the pit out of the frozen peach. I mainly use frozen peaches in smoothies, so the next year I asked if she'd mind cutting them in half & taking the pit out first (at that time she was able to get free peaches from a packing house near her, that's why I wasn't just freezing my own). THAT is absolutely AWESOME!!!! Run them under warm water for a few seconds to slip the skin off & toss them straight in the blender, LOVE IT!!!

I like frozen fruit as long as it's eaten frozen (or in a smoothie), if you let it thaw, it gets really mushy (that goes for pretty much any frozen fruit I've ever had).

Good to know. I wondered about the mushiness, couldn't see how it would be just like a fresh peach. Maybe as opposed to canned? I may try a few if I can find some good ones at the store.

I cut them up and use them eithe rin baking at holidays or in smoothies. Freezing them whole seems to me to be setting myself up for more unpleasant work later (I hate messing with frozen fruit), while saving minimal time on the front end.
