The top doesn't actually look that red - photographer error:shrug3, but is the same burnt orange as the lower colors.
Wonder Woman gave me some guidence - other than that it was kind of a 'make it up as I went along' project.
I started with a 18 by 9 base (probably bigger than I should have done) with 50 stitches on the 18in side. After the base was done I added 25 stitches on the 9in side and the other 50 stitches, etc. Then I went around and around and around and around . For the handles, I bound off the 50 side, knit and put on a holder one set of 25, bound the other 50 and then... I reduced one stitch each time until I was down to 13, knit until I thought I had it long enough, then increased one stitch until I had 25 again. I brought the handle to the 25 on the holder so that the seam was inside and knit the two together and then went back and bound it off.
BUT the most horrific five minutes of knitting I've ever had was when I decided that the sides were too loose and went to weave a lenght of thread through the cast off to gather it in. Apparently when I attached the handle to the stitches on the holder I dropped the first stitch (I notice a miss match but couldn't find it and decided I must have put the needle through two). So as I start handling this side, it started unraveling....... Luckily I was able to remain calm enough to get my dd to get me a crochet needle to fix it. Unluckily for my dh he didn't realize the seriousness of the situation and made a snide comment about 'mom coming apart' that got him in trouble.
Anyway I love it. I bought the yarn to make something for a big trip we are taking in October, so it's PERFECT for all my yarn on a fall road trip. :yes
