I am away for 2 weeks, so I put my kefir grains in a spaghetti sauce size jar with milk and in the fridge for the duration.

When I return I will dispose of the milk, but since I haven't changed it, will the kefir be ok to use? will they be alive? should I use them and dump a couple jars afterwards until they are back on track (a friend told me to do this)

Help please :shrug3

They will be fine. If your grains ever get an off taste rest them in yogurt for 24 hours and it will reset them.

They'll be fine but sometimes the first batch or two after a rest may not taste as good. It'll still be safe though, just may be yucky.
