I have this beautiful yarn I got in the last MBOY exchange, and I'm thinking of making a citron with it. (I'm getting lost in the lacy bits of the pattern (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/omelet) it came with. :O totally on my end-my swap partner sent an amazing MBOY with fabulous patterns :heart) It's a beautiful pattern, but it's just beyond me right now.
I have 798 yards of lace weight yarn. (2) I see on the citron's ravelry page (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/citron) that it has a spreadsheet for increases beyond the pattern. I could make one with 7 sections with the yarn I have. Now, I will be using #3 (3.25) needles instead of #6 (4mm)...how big of a problem will that be? I know it will make it smaller (duh :lol) and I really want a bigger shawl, so maybe either I spring for the bigger needles or I find another pattern?

What say you? :popcorn

I also love these two patterns:
(Keep in mind I'm a DYT #3 ;) ) and I don't want a triangle shawl, because it tends to point right at my butt when I wear it. :shifty

Are you using the smaller needles b/c that's what you have or because you want the lace to be more dense?

I would spring for bigger needles. Not just because it will be smaller but mainly because it won't be as lacy.

because that's what I have. I like the lighter weight fabric though, so probably spend the money on the right needles.
(which would also have the side benefit of fueling the argument with dh that I *need* the interchangeable needle set. :giggle)

Depending on the actual thickness of your yarn, a size 3 needle may be fine. You need to knit a small stockinette swatch and see how you like the resulting fabric. Citron is really a shawlette, and 800yds of laceweight won't make a very big shawl, even if you use all of it.

I've played with a citron made of worsted, and it was pretty big, but in laceweight it would have been smaller.
