What could cause a dog to get sick

I have been looking online for any pet food recalls and the food I have is not on any of them. No real reason to have him sick don't even know what it could be. He has been just laying around today and was puking all night. We fed him again thinking it was some food my son fed him and he needed to get it all out. He just puked again. What are the signs of salmanella poison, and what could he be sick from. Any answers would be great.

He is a 45-50 lb 7 yr old border collie blue healer austrillian shephard. I have a mini schnauzer she is not sick so what else could it be. :shrug3
