I was looking for something special to make for Christmas morning when I came across a recipe for chocolate babka in the December 2009 issue of Cooking Light.

I can't wait to make it!

If the recipe can't be found online, I will come back to add it here later when I am not on my phone.

I may have to consider this for New Year's (given that my clan here is *really* looking forward to cinnamon rolls)

I was going to make that for Christmas in December 2009, but DD2 was born on the 19th! I still have the recipe cut out of the magazine, and I still have not made it! Thanks for reminding me!! I am excited to make it this year, not excited about shopping for the ingredients tomorrow :no

Ok, just read over the recipe, and maybe it will have to wait until New Year's...oh well.

So, I guess my yeast was old or something. It never rose properly, so it was as dense and heavy as a brick!

My lovely dh refused to let me throw it out; instead he took it along to a family gathering and insisted to everyone that it was delicious.

On the other hand, a brown sugar cheesecake I made today did turn out!

Oh, no! Your dh sounds so sweet. :giggle :hug Yeast can be so tricky sometimes. I'm sorry it didn't turn out. I'm glad your brown sugar cheesecake turned out! :smile

On a side-note, I had a flop yesterday, too... I make a cake for "Jesus' birthday" each year, and my first one yesterday was literally a flop... it sank in the middle. My mom kept saying "Oh, just frost it, it'll be okay." Um, no, Mom.. it won't (it was reallly bad.... the worst I've ever made, though it sure smelled good). LOL I cooked another cake and thank goodness that one turned out. :phew

Sorry your babka didn't turn out. :hug2 Do you think it was just the yeast, or a problem with the recipe? Would you try it again?

Brown sugar cheesecake sounds :yum Would you care to share your recipe?
