We rescued Sirius in early October and his sister/mate a week or two later.

Sirius walked willingly into our home, but once in was very skittish. He would only come out at night and did not want to be pet. He was impossible -given his fast reflexes - to corner and pick up.

Then he spent 12 weeks on daddy duty and ignored us in favor of his children :heart From time to time my ds could capture him and we began to reward him each time we held him with treats, while ignoring him other times so he was not always on the defensive.

A few months ago he got really sick. We knew because he let everyone pet him and was listless. :( After a vet visit, he healed and would jog rather than sprint away.

Now, for some reason in the last few weeks he is finding places to lounge in plain sight and he only runs from the littlest kids. He lets you pick him up and his ears are not usually plastered back now. I think he will ALWAYS be a bit skittish, but after 9 months he is finally my pet :heart

Just had to share because I am so encouraged.

I am about to try this again with a kitten. I am hoping the time is even shorter.
