Has anyone ever tried this? My whole problem with making Steel Cut Oats is the time it takes. I watched a Good Eats episode where Alton Brown just put in all in the crock pot the night before, I want to try it I think. Here's the recipe....http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/overnight-oatmeal-recipe/index.html

You think it'll turn out? I am worried my crock pot is too big. :shrug3

How big is your crock pot?

I've made that recipe before. It is really good

:yes I use that recipe, and it's delish! It gets a little crusted around the edge of the crockpot, but nothing too bad.

I make steel cut oats this way:

1.5 c oats
5 c water
1 c milk
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Mix in pyrex bowl, put dish in crockpot. Then I add water to outside of crockpot, up about 2/3 of the side of the bowl. Cook overnight on low for 8 hours. You can add dried fruit or nuts, but my kids don't like it that way.

I did not like the texture of crockpot oatmeal, but I tend to like oatmeal that is less creamy and cohesive.

I think the elves might make this for breakfast for the kids tomorrow. Because apparently they will eat if the elves make it.

That recipe is the first crockpot one my family liked. Well, besides me, I like oatmeal, period.
