This year in Denmark, my daughter and I came to love soft boiled eggs. When we got home, she only wanted "Denmark" eggs. I overcooked them and they all became hard boiled eggs. So, when my hubby went back to Denmark, I asked him to get me one of their little egg timers that goes in the pot. He did. I keep it in the fridge with the eggs so everything is the same temperature. I cook it until it says "soft" on the timer. My dd is still upset they aren't "Denmark" eggs.

Someone, please tell me how to make soft boiled eggs. On purpose.

And--I feel like a barbarian eating such eggs--so any tips on proper etiquette would be appreciated. :heart

perhaps your timer should be room temperature when you start? The eggs should be at room temperature, too.

Fill pot with enough water to completely cover the eggs

boil water (I usually add a pinch of salt to the water)

Add eggs CAREFULLY...

wait 5 mins

remove eggs and put them under cool running water to stop the cooking process

put them in egg cups

chop off the tops

add salt and pepper if desired

EAT

yum yum yum... I love soft boiled eggs!

How do you chop off the tops? I have been using the back side of a butter knife tapping in a circular motion around the top...then peeling it off...

I would use the front side of a butter knife, tap around then straight through the top (about 1/2 to 3/4 inch from the top of egg) Then I use my spoon to scoop out the white that is left in the top - and that's the first bite. :)

I boil the water )with a little salt
once the water is boiling I turn the heat down to like 4 and put the eggs in, 4 minutes for really runny yolks, 6 minutes for softish but not terribly runny yolk.

I eat them like a barbarian, i have no more egg cups so I peel the egg and mush it on toast =)
