Mulch (squar bale of hay) - $7
Seedlings-$15
One bag of manure- $4
Seeds- $5 or so
Using a plain old shovel and a hand tiller , I have a 10 x 20 foot garden. Cucumbers, tons of tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, yellow squash, and bell peppers are thriving. I am going to tuck lettuces and carrots in here and there when it cools off a little bit more. I have herb seeds too if I have bare spots for a little basil or dill, but we will see.
There have been some oopsies; I had to buy new cauliflower seedlings because mine stressed and died before I got them in. Apparently cauliflower isn't as forgiving as the other brassicas. :bag I killed it.
So. Ta-Da!
Oh, I probably will add some annual flowers around to attract pollinators and good bugs. so, maybe $10 for a couple flats of marigolds or whatever. Figure $50 for ten tomato plants, nine each of the brassicas, three summer squash, six cucumbers, and four bell peppers.
