When I bought this seedling at the greenhouse, it was supposed to be a pumpkin. It is not a pumpkin. I don't know *what* grew on that plant. Any ideas?

It looks like white pumpkins to me. I bought one and carved it one fall when I was a kid.

Have you cut any open? White pumpkins still have orange flesh. If it's a pale spaghetti squash or something crossed with a white patty pan, then the flesh should be very pale instead.

My pumpkins (the plant that grew out of the compost pile, all the others in the main garden drowned) have that more cylindrical shape this year and so do my MIL's (an hour south of us). Perhaps pumpkins are acting funny with all this moisture this year?

For the life of me, I KNOW one year our pumpkins and squash cross breeded. I guess that is what you call it, lol! I wish I had took a pic.

A cross won't affect the fruit that year, though – only the seeds. If you saved the seeds, a cross would be evident in the next generation. If you see a cross the first year with purchased plants or seeds, crosses would have happened at the breeding farm... or seeds were mislabeled in handling (that happens more than you think).

My guess is marrow or spaghetti squash. What color is it inside?
