We got a new guinea pig tonight!

He doesn't have a name yet - I suggested Moose, but Gossie was upset since he's obviously NOT a moose since he doesn't have antlers :giggle http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4122/4800988348_8ba4bca203_m.jpg

:D Dexter it is! The girls were SO excited to come downstairs and see him this morning :giggle

I'm working on making him a big cage like the ones here (http://www.guineapigcages.com/photos/showphoto.php/photo/20978) - has anyone done one like that before?

I did that for bernie. But he got tired of his cage and destroyed it.
I think it was because he associated it with nasty medicine and me forcing him to take it.

i did. with a second story and everything. he was all decked out. It took up WAY too much space and used WAY too much bedding. and as stinky as it gets and QUICK, it was just too much work for me. but we have a small house and it was in the kitchen. Not ideal.

eta: I was a member of a site called cavey cages or soemthing like that. It was fun to look at all the diff types of cages etc.

He is very cute! Cavies are herd animals, he really does need a buddy. :)

We got him a buddy today - we haven't introduced them yet; we'll do that as soon as I get the bigger cage finished. It's coming along well, just taking a GCM/water break ;) It's been fun to plan it all out and see all the ones online :tu

I'm really hoping they get along!

WOW! That's amazing!! The one we're working on is a 4 by 2 of the same 14" squares, with only one level :) DH is going to make a table to put it on that's not as high as a regular table so it's more at eye level for DDs without them having to climb up, but off the ground. We couldn't find the coroplast stuff, so we're improvising with something else, but when we get the wood that'll go around the top of the table around it, it should work well :yes

DDs were stalling bedtime BIG time and I finally figured out that they were waiting to see the two of them together, so we put them together in the store bought cage a little bit ago - I think they'll get along just fine! :phew There was a lot of.. uhh... friskiness :shifty at first since they're both boys, but they're laying in the corner snuggling and seem to be getting to know eachother just fine :heart

Oh, almost forgot - the new one is Pip ;)

There was a lot of.. uhh... friskiness :shifty at first

That's very normal. :yes They rumble, purr, squeal, strut around and pee on each other and everywhere. One of them will become the dominant one.

Autumn

Very good to know - thanks! How long do they usually take to figure out who's more dominant? Dexter is smaller than Pip (2 months vs. 4ish months) but right now seems to be the one deciding to get up and go get a drink, check the other one out, etc... :think

The new cage is done - and they're in and really like it :D
They started jumping all around and were so cute checking everything out :tu

They're still making all sorts of noises at eachother and randomly jumping on eachother - as soon as they got into the big cage and finished checking everything out the larger one started to let it be known that everything was his :no Interesting to see how it changed once they were in a neutral territory that neither of them had been in

ah.. well then I like the blanket idea.. just washing it instead of trying to clean up the shavings all the darn time. :rockon

Some of mine have a fave corner they use all of the time. Others just go anywhere in the cage. Interestingly, the boars (males) are my cleanest ones. :)
