but *every* time DH or I have to make DD1 stay somewhere (making her stay in her room to sleep, physically sitting her down on the couch with us when she is being crazy...etc, she starts screaming that she has to go potty. i *know* that she does not need to pee each time, as most of the time this is right after she has used the bathroom. Am I really just supposed to stop what I am doing with her and take her to pee every single time she does this? Is this just some stage that three year olds go through? It is driving me nuts!

:popcorn dealing with this to some extent. Some time she is acting out because she has to potty...but other times it's just to get out of having to sit and calm down. Though the distraction of going to the bathroom usually gets her out of the rut so some times it's a good thing.

Can you take her to the bathroom first? Just make it part and parcel of the whole process?
