So, I got Your 4 y/o from the library. The copy must be ancient. The cover and copy is from the 70's!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading it.

I read it shortly after my son turned 4 and wished I had started reading it before. I felt sooo relieved. The things he was doing were normal!!

maybe I should check it out of the library again! but I don't remember it discussing many of the issues we're having now.

You can read parts of it in the Amazon listing for the book (http://www.amazon.com/Your-Four-Year-Old-Louise-Bates-Ames/dp/0440506751#reader_0440506751), click on the "read inside". They are very generous with what they show you. The first chapter is a great one, and a lot of it is available in the "read inside" feature. It mentions the potty talk, for instance, that was brought up in another thread. :hug

Re-read it today and am sooooo glad I did. I really needed the reminder about "out of bounds" behavior and words.

I can't believe it. It's like I'm reading about my own child. It brings such a relief. Sometimes he feels like he's not himself anymore. Someone's replaced my boy with a more obnoxious violent one..... yet I'm reading that it's normal. Especially the crazy stories I hear.... :shifty

Mine must be from the seventies too! How I wish my mother had had this book instead of JD. :snooty

I was much relieved to read it too. :hug2

My Your Two Year Old is from the 70s too and I love the old fashioned pics of littles playing with wagons and other toys that are reaaaaly hard to find now :giggle

I've read Your Four Year Old at least half a dozen times because I used to teach that age group and :crazy it was lots of help but four is still really really hard (I'm still holding out hope we are going to skip from 3 to 5) but then again....there are some parts that are "wonderful" too.

Yes, four for us right now is more wild and wonderful.

What I really like is how the celebrate the spirit of a 4 year old, rather than take a negative tone.

I read more today (I'm actually almost done) and WOW. It's so my son.

Are they Christians? There is a lot of God talk in there.

I have the series and I LOVE them. I actually have been reading Your Four Year Old for about 1/2 year now. . . but I keep misplacing it :doh so I actually haven't gotten through it yet. . . . I really need to go find that.
