I really want to say how blessed I feel that I found this wonderful group of women. You are helping me to become a better mama to my little ones and a stronger person everyday. I don't get to post much, but I find time to read with a baby in my lap in the evenings and I have learned so much. I also have a spirited three year old and I've really embraced the idea of the Comfort Corner for her. We've been talking about it quite a bit lately and we decided to send a present of a Comfort Corner (a squishy pink blanket and heart shaped pillow) to her cousin, my niece, who is turning five and struggles with depression and sensory issues (all from my side of the family, unfortunately :(). In addition to the cozy stuff, I wrote a poem and made it into a little "Comfort Corner Book" for her with peaceful pictures that Little D and I cut out and pasted on the pages. I want to share the poem with you because I feel like it does a good job of capturing exactly what the Comfort Corner is for. I'm interested in getting feedback from other mamas, as well. Here it is:
Comfort Corner

When I’m feeling Great Big Feelings and I need to get away,
I sit down in my Comfort Corner and take a break from play.
Sometimes I go alone or sometimes mama comes along,
To read a quiet story or sing a peaceful song.
I breathe in happy, helpful thoughts, and blow out all the mad,
God’s arms of love surrounding me, until I’m not so sad.
And when I’m feeling in control of what I’ll say or do,
I’ll say “Goodbye!” to my Comfort Corner and say “Hello!” to you.

Awesome! I am going to ahve room in the new house (I think!) to really do a comfort corner and I would like to be able to use that over the space! I really like it!

Our church just rented a new building and we are moving in this weekend. I am in charge of setting up the children's area and was planning on setting up a comfort corner for the kids in the new space. Would it be ok if I used your poem to teach to the kids explaining the purpose of the corner? It's an amazingly beautiful poem.

Only if you promise to post a picture of it! :)

You too! I want to see everyone's comfort corners. We have yet to set up a "formal" one of our own.

SOooo beautiful!! Thank you so much for sharing!! I'd love to share this with my son in his Comfort Corner, if I may...
Here are my pics of our comfort corner:

It contains big comfy cushions,
Eee Eee,
A favorite polished rock that he finds soothing to hold and rub,
A notepad where he can scribble out his frustrations,
A few comforting books,
His dinosaur water bottle,
A favorite dinosaur,
and finally, hanging on the wall at his level:
A sweet and much-loved dinosaur painting that his big cousin Curt painted for him.

Here's another angle to show how it is sort of private and 'tucked away':
