Dh has been trying to find some little projects around the house to keep him busy while he recovers. He built me a chicken tractor this weekend and got us 3 hens! The one is a proven layer and gave us an egg the very first day. The other two are not yet fully grown. Dh hasn't put the wheels on yet, but it's so light it almost doesn't need them. The best part? He only has $4 invested in the whole thing! Everything for the most part was leftover from other projects :yes

(Easter morning....Easter bunny left some eggs for us :giggle)

Okay first, that is one really cool Chicken Tractor. :jawdrop And only four dollars? Awe-some!

Secondly, What kind of giant Easter Bunny do you have in your neck of the woods? Ours didn't leave eggs nearly that size. :giggle

Full disclosure: dh is a former cabinet maker and he was trained by the best (FIL is a master carpenter). I'm pretty proud of it!

I'll be sure to send our Easter Bunny your way next year :giggle

Forgot to add that we are in the city, thus the reason for the chicken tractor instead of a full-on chicken coop. Also the reason we don't have a rooster ;) Don't think the neighbors would care for that too much.

That is cool! I wish my dh would build one of that caliber. :shifty

One thing though...because I don't want you to have what happened to some of ours last year happen to you--do you have raccoons that come around at night? If so, you might want to put something around the bottom of the sleeping quarters--coons reached under our coop and grabbed chickens by the leg and pulled them out...

Just wanted to say something--and you might already have addressed this, but I can't tell on the pic. :hug

If you have a dog around, that might deter the coons too.

It looks fantastic and I'm super envious. :D Our neighbors do have a rooster (we're semi-rural) and he does make a racket. :lol

It's hard to see in this pic, but dh extended the chicken wire down past the "floor" so we feel reasonable safe as far as predators are concerned. I'm going to take another look today to be doubly sure. Thanks for the heads-up!

That is too cool for words. Can I show DH this picture? We're talking about getting some chickens and I think he should be able to figure out something similar.
