(no, I wasn't the one who brilliantly carpeted the DINING ROOM :doh )

I used a Hoover steam cleaner and Earth Friendly Products Rug Shampoo. It doesn't remove all the stains, but the chemicals in mainstream cleaners are freaky scary. So I go for "improved, albeit not perfect" results, along with less nasty chemicals for my kids to crawl and sit on. I don't wash it very often either (partly because it's such a pain to do :shifty ) and partly because every time you wash a carpet, it releases more of the chemicals in the carpet and pad :sick (even if the cleaner itself is fairly ok).

(did I mention that when dh is employed again, we want to replace the upstairs carpet with non-offgassing bamboo or hardwood floors? :shifty dream on....)

oh, and there's ALREADY barbecue sauce on it from dinner tonight. :sigh
