Um, I pulled a bunch of stuff out of the closet looking for some gloves...and one of my Birkenstocks, the right birk from my favorite pair, is moldy on the inside of the sandel. It must have gotten wet the last time I wore them, and then got shoved in the closet for a few months...:sick

How would you clean this without ruining the shoe?

I would spray it down with vinegar, wipe it down well, and then dry it out in front of a wood burning stove or fireplace (or some equal source of dry heat). This is what I did with a particle board piece that is part of a baby seat I got at a thrift store. When I took it apart the piece that supports the bottom was really moldy and damp (must have been left outside at some point and then never dried). It cleaned up really well using this technique.
