I'm so sick of owning fabric covered items that don't fit in a washing machine. Like my couch. And the wall to wall carpeting. They're foul. Absolutely foul. I hate them.

My dream house when this mood hits me is probably stainless steel, has a center drain, and a rocking super heated high pressure hose system. But uh, that might be a bit sterile and uncomfortable.

My other dream house is an all natural green home built from the earth itself, with earthen walls, stone floors, with wood and natural fiber furnishings.

Help me find my dream furniture style. In particularly, I'm looking for a couch that's truly comfortable and relaxing, but can still be completely, thoroughly washed down and cleaned.

I had never heard of them before, until I googled it just now. Wow! I'm afraid I'd get bugs up my shorts. :giggle

Can't help with your dream furniture but depending on your current furnishing I might can help with that whole washable thing. I have a set of denim covers for a sofa and a loveseat free to a good home. I can wash them in my standard washer/dryer. If you want them they're yours.

This is why my parents bought leather furniture and put down wall to wall wood flooring. Everything can be washed down.

I kinda like this:

Only with a different/modern fabric, and some side pillows, but Josh finds this style incredibly ugly, and extremely uncomfortable to boot.

I wanted mission style furniture for that very reason. We finally decided against it, in the end, but yea, that's what I wanted and why I wanted it, too.

Ooh, here's a modern update on the concept:

The cushions pass my test if they can be hosed in the bathtub, with hot water.

Denim couches are the best thing in the world with kids. Wear just like jeans. We had a sectional (and I hate sectionals) passed down to us from my aunt. It was originally from Pottery Barn. We LOVED it but couldn't afford to move it from NE to CA so I sold it.

I want furniture that a dust mite couldn't survive the cleaning of. I want to escape "surface cleaning only" items.

When I had my own little apartment, I bought a little set of wicker patio/sunroom furniture on sale. Real wicker, not plastic, and not varnished. I went all seventies with it, and filled my apartment with potted plants. It was awesome. Everything could come clean with a water hose.

Josh isn't into that.

I tried selling him on the idea of buying -any- form off outdoor furniture, and using that, but he let me know exactly how tacky he found that idea. But he doesn't spend 24/7 looking at and failing at cleaning up the messes his children make.

My dh can't deal with outdoor furniture used inside...sigh. Things "should be" used for their intended purposes!

I think Josh is concerned I'll try to replace his recliner with this:

For an earthy home maybe this (http://www.rocketstoves.com/)...
made out of cob (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cob_%28material%29).

A bit more practical maybe "crate style" furniture. Only fabric on the cushions and you can wash/replace the covers.

I started typing this before dinner, I see you have found some cool "crate style".

This is what I dream of getting: washable covers, built in storage, kid friendly. . . and cheap(ish).

Go to Ikea. :giggle Washable covers. Forget the leather or vinyl hoseable type stuff, though, if you've got cats. :shifty

Yeah, I like those, until an anthill gets made in the middle of it. But you could put a blanket over it.

I was looking at this just today! My bro used to make/peel logs for this kinda of furniture. He made a lovely table that's now their kitchen/dining room table.

We have microfibre sofas in our rec room and I just unzip the cushiion covers and pop them in the washing machine on cold...then I dry them in the dryer on low heat. They come out beautiful and it's easier than wiping down a leather set. :tu

It just needs a different couch. :)
