I don't have an electric knife, so I don't know. . . but are you using it to try to peel the potatoes? or just cut them in half?

A chef knife would work better.

:yes An electric knife operates on friction and moving blades - perfect for slicing meat and poultry. A raw potato needs a solid chopping blade, like a chef's knife or even a steak knife if that is all you have. Use a cutting board or other non-slippery surface to make it more stable and easier to cut.
