Can chicken be thawed out in a marinade of buttermilk?

Yes, it can.
To be really safe, you should be refrigerating it at the same time, but that will take longer.
I often thaw chicken in warm salted water--this brining makes the taste great and the chicken practically impossible to overcook. However, it isn't according to the safety rules.

OK. I will pour salted seasoned buttermilk into a plastic bag and put the chicken in it and put it in the fridge.
Thanks!

I was going to make fried chicken marinaded in buttermilk and seasonings but ONCE AGAIN BOTH PACKAGES OF CHICKEN WERE SPOILED!!! AUGH!
Now I have to take them back to the store and get my money back. And I have the receipt too.
I'm not even pretending, this is the SECOND TIME!!! AUGH!
