It's a cowl for my Nana. :) The colors just don't show up well in cell phone pics.

For the yarnies, it's Crystal Palace Mini Mochi, and if you're on Ravelry, the pattern is the Good Luck Cowl. :heart

Lindsay that looks awesome! I agree with Joann, nothing is insignificant when crafting.

I finished my first ever quilt. Haven't had a chance to wash it yet and let it pucker some more but here's a quick pic:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v34/marielle448/july%202009/IMG_4230.jpg

It's one of those kits from Joann's that I bought several years ago (has the fabric coordinated and ready to cut/sew/etc.)

I'm repurposing Celeste's too-short jeans into ruffled capris. Posted the first pair last night; here are the next two pairs:

Awww Adrienne that Minnie polka dot is adorable. What a great way to extend the use of kids clothing. Just wish it was as acceptable to put a ruffle on the boys' shorts LOL. One month into the summer stash and it looks like my oldest is wearing leiderhosen.

I like the pink hearts too and welcome back to the craft side!

Thanks Joann and Lindsay. I'm still waiting on the pucker wash as someone woke up puking last night and I'm here washing sheets, towels and coverlets. Blegh. I did make a reusable grocery bag based on this tutorial and will post pics later. I see many more in my future:

Loving the cowl, Lindsay!! Super cute quilt, Marielle! I :heart duckies! I've abandoned the scarf I was working on because I can't put the longies down. I just love how this yarn is working up!! It's Marr Haven Rambouillet by Mosaic Moon, and it's heavenly. I need to go take another picture, I'm about 2 inches down on the legs now. Have I mentioned how much I love magic looping?? :grin

Here's the two journals I finished last night and an explanation of them. I am making these to sell, if you know anybody.

Pregnancy journal made for a swap. This has coptic binding to lay flat open, wallpaper sample cover, hand-drawn pregnancy silhouette and approximately 40 pages. There is also some minimal beading on the binding.
http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t147/winchesterruger/IMG_9115.jpghttp://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t147/winchesterruger/IMG_9116.jpghttp://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t147/winchesterruger/IMG_9118.jpg

Personal travel journal, covered again with brown wallpaper sample. Coptic bound to lay flat when opened. Beading on the front cover. Inside opens to reveal hand torn pages from recycled maps and insert colored plain paper to write about your adventures and caption pictures. I call these messy journals as the pages are different sizes and irregular, but most are big enough to place 4X6 pictures. I'm keeping this journal due to some minor construction issues and will show an example of the interior with pictures soon.

http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t147/winchesterruger/IMG_9121.jpghttp://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t147/winchesterruger/IMG_9122.jpghttp://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t147/winchesterruger/IMG_9123.jpg

Thanks for looking and I'll comment on all the cool stuff so far after I get back from chiro appointment.

Jen, WOW amazing! You hand drew that pregnant woman pic??

Yes, I've done these types of drawings since I was a wee little one. I just forget that I have the ability to sometimes and don't do it for a long long time. I used to hide words in there too. I started a word in the pregnant belly but then forgot to finish it so all the letters aren't there.

Bonnie I love that idea although the shorts are also pretty slim. I love the look of the surfer length shorts and have wised up to buying them just a tad longish or building in length when sewing them up. It only took me 3 years LOL. Will definitely keep it in mind for the more loose fitting pairs.

Rosalie I love that color way. Jen, I admire those of you with an artistic flair. That drawing is beautiful.

Here's the reusable bag I made today. Since I was testing out the pattern I used some older fat quarters forgotten in the stash thus the different prints on each panel. Love the result though and will be making them larger next time around to fit the items that don't normally fit in a plastic bag.

Lindsay, I need to look up what a cowl is, but I love the little danglies on it :)

A cowl is a small scarf that is joined together to create a tube, instead of one long piece of fabric. And thanks! The danglies are stitch markers, and I get to look at them with all of my projects in some form or another. :giggle I ran out for this one, though. The stitches repeat 10 times, so I needed that many markers. :doh

You guys are incredible! I love everything you're making. It's so inspiring!

Here's my latest knitting project. It's a pretty big deal for me; I usually only knit hats and scarves. I need instant gratification; there's no way I could finish a sweater. :shrug3 Maybe someday. Anyway, I knit it for a friend's baby shower. I bought the pattern from Etsy and used stash yarn. I :heart him and can't wait to make another one! His name is Albert the Absent-Minded Monster. :giggle The lady who designed the pattern named him.

Oh great, an Etsy, so I can fall apart from the pressure of needing to take orders, meet deadlines and not be able to go down the rabbit trails *I* want to follow.

Well, I just replaced the missing crochet hook that I needed to finish the Christmas stocking. So, as soon as I finish the hat, I'll finish whipping that up. I have one more pair of shorties A insists baby J needs for this summer and I'm free to float around for awhile with my work.

Don't know what I'm going to do next. I'm either going to start a Christmas afghan, or I'm going to make some toys. I *think* I'm going to work on some toys to set aside for Christmas stockings and presents and then make a Christmas afghan. I want to hold off until September on more longies for baby J, cause I want to make sure the inseam I'm using is going to get him through this winter.

But, I still have to figure out what to DO with this hat when its done, and I have 2.5 rounds left to completion now!

---------- Post added at 04:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:55 PM ----------

Oh goody. I'm DONE. And, with my HUGE noggin...I look like the Pillsbury dough boy in this hat.

Now to figure out what on earth to DO with it.

I used the original patterns it called for purple, agua and maize colors. I might make it again in different colors. But, I'm still not going to WEAR it, even if I changed the colors. Its cool though, definitely fairisle after I thought you had to knit fairisle.

I can definitely take the skills it taught me and apply it to longies and other woolies now. Could apply it to other hats too.

i learned doing stuff by hand since i was a little girl... i say 7-8? so i really don't think much of it. i do side seams on the cupcakes on the sewing machine, b/c when i stuff them tight i need the seems to be very strong and neat. but the decorations and fruit and other stuff i wouldn't know how to do other than by hand.

i just got a neat knitting dvd. it's pretty helpful. I really want to knit something for Spirit of Joy. :think well, I'll do a hat. What else can I do? oh, those little hand mittens, i love to use those in the first months.
Can I knit little baby leg warmers?

*totally* off topic: my ds and my friends ds were born within weeks of each other and both had allergies and eczema. and so they would scratch and bat at themselves so badly. we had them in little baby mittens forever. when they finally outgrew those things they wouldn't' use their little fingers. it was so pitiful and so funny at the same time. :giggle of course they figured out what those things were for pretty quick, but still.

Knitlove, that diaper cover is AWESOME! If we were still CDing I'd be totally inspired to knit one. :yes

Jaymarie, it wasn't hard. If you can knit in the round and can increase/decrease, it's totally doable. I had never done much increasing/decreasing, but I used the video tutorials on knittinghelp.com and youtube and was totally fine. Granted, sometimes I had to watch it more than once to get the hang of what I needed to do but it was not hard, IMO, just a little challenging. But I have knitted a lot in the round and am comfy with double pointed needles, although she has you do the bulk of the body using a method called the magic loop method, which was awkward at first but then made a ton of sense once I started.

I got the pattern at this lady's etsy: http://www. etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6034320

She was really friendly and offers free help via email if you get totally stuck.

Has anyone had any trouble getting their knitting on a plane with them?? I will be traveling soon and can't think of a better way to spend the time.

Here is my current project. Not too tricky for most, but I form my stitches in such a way that when double back for a short row it doesn't look pretty. :scratch I think I will take it to a knitting shop in madison and see if they can help me.
Really I have only done the waist, I started a couple of days ago, but I only knit when I am nursing and not on the computer (i can multitask but I am not THAT good ;))

Has anyone had any trouble getting their knitting on a plane with them?? I will be traveling soon and can't think of a better way to spend the time.

I just took my knitting on the plane to Atlanta and back. Circulars have a better chance of getting through than straights or dpns. The circs I brought were all 12-inch, so the needles themselves were only about 4 inches long. I made sure that any needles I brought had a project on them. I have a pair of scissors with an inch-long blade, and I brought those instead of my usual scissors. They barely glanced at them, and I did bring a SASE to send them home just in case they couldn't get through.

knitlove, are you on Ravelry?

Leen
07-22-2009, 09:15 AM
My MIL and I just flew together and she had her knitting. We looked up the requirements before hand and if I remember right, your circulars have to be under a certain length. And bamboo or plastic needles have a much better chance of getting through than metal.

Yep.:yes It's just a tube with ribbing on each end.

I actually made some for elijah last year, but they wouldn't stay up because I didn't really make the ribbing stretchy enough. I am going to make some more but with a think elastic in the ribbing!
They weren't difficult and oh so cute - chubby thighs just can't take BabyLegs and other popular brands ;)

I appliqued this little shirt today for my friends new baby. I've never appliqued before, but I've been wanting to for a long time. I only had to rip out the stitches about 6 times until I was satisfied with all 3 apples. :sh5

I probably shouldn't post the close-up, where you can see all my mistakes, but oh well. :shrug3

Just try it, it is not that hard. Just make sure you have the right needles, right stitch and you are set to go. Practice on strips of knit fabric before sewing the whole outfit.

I am :jawdrop at all you crafty, creative ladies! You knitters and sewers are totally living my dream. I would LOVE to be able to make clothes. I really really love to sew but have never had enough time to practice enough so that I felt comfortable venturing on to making more complicated things.

DH just put the shelves up in my office last night, so I can finally start unpacking my boxes. Hopefully once I get some space and can get my craft table set up again, I can start working on something. I bought the material for a quilt a year ago, hoping to make the quilt for DH for Christmas, and that totally never happened. I'd love to do it for this year...maybe once the table is set up I'll try to get started on that again. I'll just have to keep checking this thread to stay motivated. :giggle

MamaPepper
07-26-2009, 11:09 AM
Right now they are stuffed with poly-fil so that I can keep cost down. I've actually thought about stuffing with wool to sell on etsy, but I would obviously have to sell them for more. . . they really don't take too much time to sew up at all. . . if I had to narrow it down, I would say 1/2 hour max from start to finish on each ball. . the hand-sewing part takes as long for me as cutting, sewing and stuffing the rest of the ball :giggle

Elayne, those really are cute! Yasmel, awesome! I have the Ottobre tee-shirt pattern from a couple of years ago, but that pattern is a bit cuter.

Here's the small longies I'm working on right now. They'll need a cozy home, probably on the buns of a late fall or winter baby, so I'll toss them up on HC or Etsy when I'm done.

Oh and as far as what I'm crafting just in the process of making a dressed up bulletin/cork board for my dining area. Elayne the balls are super cute! I made a ball for Z for easter and had the hardest time getting it stuffed so that it was round. Is there a technique or am I just challenged.:giggle Her ball is kinda lopsided and not matter how I squished or move the fill it was just not totally round. She loves it so that makes me feel better but oy!

MamaPepper
07-27-2009, 03:50 PM
I don't know, you may just be challenged :wink :giggle Just kidding. . .

I don't know, what are you stuffing them with? I used poly-fil on these and stuffed them fairly tight, but not so tight that I couldn't sort of mold the ball into a nice round shape :shrug . . I don't know what else to tell you though. . these were my first go-round at them.

for me, i have to make sure my poly fill is not lumpy (b/ c sometimes it is for some reason) and that i pinch of little pieces, like with two or three finger tips before i stuff. also, the thinner the fabric, the harder it is going to be to stuff it smoothly. the thicker the fabric, the more forgiving it is. :)

i LOVE that one, too... it sold first.:D i am trying out "couture" aprons - more expensive fabrics, and charging more. a couple other people expressed an interest in that one, so i tried to find the same fabric, to no avail...:-/ but i think i will be doing more batiks in the future. very stunning and vivid. :rockon

I have been working on a bear for Butterfly. I have sewn and ripped out the same part of the foot and sole three times. I finally got it right. My concentration is a bit off right now. Next I will sew the back to the front and add the arms and head. Then just the stuffing and stitch her closed.

I am also working on bib. I need to applique some pieces to make the face. I dont know how. Is there a special interfacing that fuses to the applique and then to the fabric?
Thanks Kasey

Actually, I need to go back and bind off again with a 13 or a 15 needle. I used a 9 (the cowl was done with 6), but it wasn't quiiiite large enough. Anyway, here are the results. They were taken with my dad's camera. I want that camera.

DancingWithElves

these are vegan and newborn size, so just same cotton. for vegan warmer shoes, i line with waterproof fleece. and then i do all-leather, which i always line with fleece on the soles, and those are for walkers. of course, littler ones can have them too, but honestly, they are more comfy in cloth.

Jen, thanks a bunch for the inspiration. I love the word rococco to pieces just for the way it rolls off the tongue and that shawl is lovely. Linsday that is adorable. Love the deep color choice too for a change of pace from the typical baby fare.

I forgot to post this the other day. Just a useful household item we needed for displaying in the dining room. It's pretty convoluted with more instructions/detail on the blog but basically plywood cut to size with cork tiles on top then covered in fabric stapled to the plywood in back.

Ok - posting progress on that quilt I'm making. Warning - this is a shameless use of scraps! It turned into two quilts - a smaller one for my nephew who is coming soon (any day now!), and a little bigger one for my DS. I used a disappearing 9-patch pattern for the blocks that are already sewn. I'm going to do a pieced border in blue fabrics, but haven't cut and sewn that part yet. So in the pics, I just placed some blue fabric around the blocks to give you the idea of the layout.

Thanks ladies!! I'm really enjoying reborning so far. I bought 2 outfits too since I think he'll be done within the next week (Taking breaks during rooting as it hurts my eyes.) I'll be rooting his eyelashes this evening and adding his eyes, as well as a magnent behind his mouth so that he will be able to be a pacifier reborn baby

A couple of weeks ago I finished designing and knitting hats for my son and nephew. I just posted them on Ravelry.com and posted the pattern on my blog. I love them. They turned out so cute. My avitar is my son's hat.

Trying the hat pictures again. Thanks so much for telling me how to do it.

I love them Autum

I am almost done with my cousin's sling. I want to add more stitches to be on the safe side and I need to cut the tail shorter.

:heart the longies, Becka! I wanna do ruffles!!! :hissyfit I haven't finished the longies for Nolan... They're almost done, but I'm waiting to do the cuff until it starts to get cold. I don't know how much he's going to grow, and I want the inseam to last all winter.

I'm working on mittens for my Mommy for Christmas, I'll snap a pic later. :)

You guys have amazing talent.

The doll is going to be fabulous, but right now it's a little creepy for me (I don't know how to do smilies)

I made church bags for my girls, but don't have pictures. They are made out of matching fabric in each girls color (pink, blue, green, yellow) and have black ribbon for handles.

Everything looks awesome everyone!:rockon

I finished two hats this week. It's a free pattern from Soulemama's blog. Each hat was done in a day...it's that fast. I love it on my girls but they can't have them until Christmas.;) That is if I don't cave and give them to them sooner and just knit two more. I'll have to post pictures later as dh has the camera today.

I also cast on yesterday for SiSi's fingerless gloves that she wants for her birthday.

First, this was not my craft but A's. He carved this for C for Christmas. I tried to get the details to show up but the pictures don't do it justice.

I love ruffles, lol!! but they are a pain cause the stitch increase there's over 800 stitches in that small bit of cuff!

TTL, that carving is amazing!!!
