i have to cut off the excess tulle(?) with sequins that covers the strap. and then sew that down... the hand sewing is fine, but because there is so much excess it has to be cut ( i guess usually they just tuck it in the back) and i don't know if it will unravel. i was thinking i could just turn it under twice and use a double sided tape or something to give it a more finished edge. would this work? better ideas?

the sequins are sewn on with elasticized thread. it looks like a ladder on the back - 2 outer rows and then rungs going across... from front it looks like 3-4 rows of sequins. this is part i'm worried about. as long as i can shorten and deal with this section, the other will work itself out... they are sewn on... but with no stretch - regular thread.

any help appreciated :yes

Hmm...the last few times I had to sew straps on the leotard it was just sequins and no tulle, I just shoved em in the leotard and covered the excess with duct tape so it woudln't itch. I should go look at the costumes for this year..I think we have those same straps in purple and the recital is this sunday...I'm so glad you posted to remind me!

If you have a hot-glue gun, a little bead of hot glue across the end seals it nicely. If, of course, you can avoid getting little glue strings caught on everything else (not that it's ever happened to me . . . )
