If you are in a climate such as myself (Illinois) can you use pots for perennials.... flowers, strawberries, etc.? Or will they die over the winter not being in the ground?

Is there a trick besides container gardening requiring more water? A couple years ago I tried to plant tomatoes and green peppers in pots and I didn't get any harvest.

I'm in Indiana and I did peppers and tomatoes in containers last year...the peppers did okay, not a big harvest, but we got several. We only got two tomatoes...

Strawberried planted in the autumn (if you can get plants) and covered during the winter will get you a bigger crop come summer.

Containers can be wrapped to stop the earth freezing. And covered with a cloche or portable greenhouse type thing.

Fruit is HUNGRY - you'll need lots of liquid feed to get a good crop in a container. Tomato feed works fine for strawberries :)
