WOW RLM. . . That IS a long list!!!! You can do it!! :cheer

I started doing a "general pickup" and then we had a meltdown so I spent about 15 minutes rocking ds1. . .

But before that, I did get my calendar and my "list board" hung up on the walls and out of the way. . I also wrote a list of things I would like to accomplish today, AND before the baby is born. . .

My MAIN thing today will be to make banana bread out of my overly ripe bananas. . . and then about 100 other things that I'm sure the boys won't let me get too. . .

At any rate, I digress. . . I'm off to go do another 5 since RLM posted ;)

I peeled the bananas and put them in freezer bags for smoothies.
I decided that they are actually just perfectly ripe, so they are not ripe enough for banana bread. I left enough out for bread, though, and I will do that in a couple days.

How funny that we both were going to make banana bread today, MamaPepper

How funny that we are both wanting to make banana bread from our bananas today.

That IS really funny. . Those bananas have been sitting on my counter for the past week or so. . just calling to me and I haven't done it!! Today just seems like the day!

So, In order to Prep. for making that bread, I cleaned out the kitchen sink, started the dishwasher and made a snack :)

I don't know why I typed that twice. Pregnancy brain I guess...

I finished loading and started the dishwasher, made DS an english muffin, and started cleaning out the produce drawer of the refrigerator.

Realized that the macaroni and cheese I was making myself for breakfast was burning. . .

Put that pan to soak,

Poured a cup of coffee

Found Banana Bread Recipe and set it by the bananas

Sitting back down to drink coffee and eat Mac n Cheese (it is homemade btw :yes)

And as I was typing this. . I looked down and my little trash compactors just ate all of my Mac n Cheese . . . AAAArrrrrrghhhhh. :ph

I haven't heard that story!!! Enlighten me!

I know I started this, BUT I'm not going to get anything done with these two little boys being the crazies they are, so since it's about 55 degrees out right now, we're heading outside to get a little big energy out and I'll be back to this after that!!!!

wiped down a few counters
discovered that my disposal is clogged, because when I turned it on, a yucky geiser came out the drain on the other side.
So, cleaning the sink and doing more dishes will have to wait until after DH is home, I am not getting under the sink in my condition, I might not be able to get back out!

So, today hasn't Exactly gone as planned. . . My internet went down but I just tried to do what I could. . . I did work on my room/baby's room/office/sewing closet for about 1/2 hour. . . and really, that's about it! :-) The boys played outside quite a bit and miracle of miracles, they are BOTH sleeping at the same time right now. . . We'll just ignore the fact that it's 3:00 which means a later bedtime. . I'm OFF to start the banana bread without 2 kids whining to get into the kitchen!!!!!!

YAY!!!!!

SERIOUSLY

OK. . . maybe you can answer this question for me. . . I am totally upset at myself because I was at the store the other day and basically got enough stuff to make 15 different kinds of brownies and so I ASSUMED I would have everything on hand for banana bread. . . :shifty I was able to substitute my lack of shortening with apple sauce. . BUT, I don't have any Baking Soda. . . What is going to happen when I don't put that in???

RealLifeMama
02-10-2009, 02:45 PM
That is so frustrating!! I do stuff like that all the time.
If you recipe needs it, it probably needs it. Leavening is kind of important. ;) But, I know I have made banana bread recipes without soda before. Can you look up a recipe that does not need it?
I will see if I can find the one I made without it. It struck me as odd at the time.

MamaPepper
02-10-2009, 02:48 PM
Well, it was really the last ingredient that I was going to put in, so it's either in or it's out. . . If it's a leavening thing, can I just throw some dry yeast in there?

Aisling
02-10-2009, 02:48 PM
I just woke up...apparently, I passed out on the couch while the kids were watching Sid the Science Kid. :shifty :yawn

I don't know...
Maybe baking powder??? I have no idea. I am sorry!
Could you maybe try to make muffins instead, and bake one or two to test it without? Then if that is disastrous, add yeast or baking powder and see if that works better?

SO. . . Banana Bread Update!!

I have to say that, considering I made 1 major substitution, left Baking Soda completely out and altered the measurements because I had one less banana than I needed, this actually has turned out REALLY good!!

I'm not sure what purpose the Baking Soda plays, but this rose fine and is a nice and moist consistency. . . So. . . YAY

NOW, I will stop derailing this thread and try to go get some work done!!!! :)
