Natural Solutions for Cockroaches?

We're travelling to the Caribbean and I've heard there are cockroach visits at the resort we are going to. :sick Any natural solutions or things I can take along with me to discourage these little visitors? :shifty

I've heard boric acid powder will repel them - I think you sprinkle it all around the insides of cupboards etc.....
