My 2yo niece will be coming to live with us full time next month and I have to get her room ready. The problem is I don't have any clue as to what color(s) to paint the room. I know I don't want pink but that's as far as I have gotten. The room is small but has good light and all of the trim is white. I would be grateful for any suggestions and/or pictures of little girls' rooms. :heart

Here's a picture of my older girls' room, I'm not a big fan of pink either ;)

What about a pretty yellow--maybe a butter yellow? It's neutral enough to go with lots of other colors as you decorate :shrug

What do you think of yellow?

:giggle I was just posting this when diamondintherough posted.

I'm happy to see a blue room for a girl that looks nice and girly. I'm a huge fan of blue and would probably paint the entire house various shades of blue if my dh wasn't there to reign me in. :giggle

I don't mind yellow but I have a hard time picking one that I actually like. Like sometimes I'll walk into a yellow room and like it but when looking at little yellow swatches my head starts to spin and they all begin to look alike.

Furniture is going to be a dark espresso color. That makes me want to lean toward a nice ice blue but I already have three blue rooms upstairs. :shifty

My girl room is ALL pink. But we've done yellow, lavender, and green too. :)

We did Gianna's room (also a sunny spot) an eggshell color, and her furniture is black/distressed. It might be hard to match/co-ordinate the trim? But dark furniture looks sooooo pretty and elegant in a very light room, I think!

Maybe you could do the blue with clouds thing, then you can stick butterflies or gardens or pretty much any theme you want, unless it's underwater :P

What about a Tinkerbell-ish green with white trim?

Dark espresso would be really pretty with light green too, and it would grow with her and work as the decorating changed. A light periwinkle or lavender would be nice too!

I'm going to vote for periwinkle blue cause that's the colour my room was when I was a kid. It almost has a purple hue, which I loved when I was a little girl. :heart

:yes Their room was originally going to be green on the bottom and blue on top, but it didn't look quite right. I really like how it turned out though, it's my favorite room in the house (except when it's a pig sty :sigh ). The older girls room is lavender and a light blue, but I never finished it :O (have one wall left!).

Okay, now I'm torn between Tinkerbell green and periwinkle. I knew you gals would have some great suggestions that I didn't think of!

My girls room is a nice buttery yellow and we decorated with blue (sort of a dark robin's egg blue) and red. It's girly without being over the top.

That's a cool website! I so want that Cinderella bed. I wonder how it would go with the race car bed I was longing for in another thread. I'm nothing if not eclectic. :giggle I really like the green room in the last link. I don't mind pink as an accent color so that's something to think about as well. I'm starting to lean more toward green now because I think the dark wood furniture will stand out better against the green walls.

April, what color was your furniture in your periwinkle room?

DoulaClara, what colors do you use for accents?

Lots of light greens, light blues and lots of neutrals. We didn't know if Gianna was going to be a boy or a girl, and I like the whole "dragonfly/frog/woodsy critters" theme that our house has ended up having. Her room is still a bit sparse (she still sleeps with us most of the night) but she's got a few things she's pulling together.

We settled on a color and bought paint on Saturday. We went with Fairy Dust (70BB 44/144) from Glidden, which is sort of a light periwinkle but not quite. We're planning on pink and white bedding and pink accents throughout the room. I'm okay with pink in small doses. :) P saw this pink shaggy are rug at Target that she liked but it was $70 and just not in the budget right now with all we have to buy/do. Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll go on sale soon.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! :heart

Now I just have to get the room painted and furniture assembled in a timely fashion. I could really use the pregnancy nesting drive right now. :giggle

Can't wait to see it! We did our girls' room in our old house with a similar color and it was wonderful. You can easily find a comforter that will match. Lots of colors will go with it.

Please post pics when you are done, ok?

Will do. My plan is to paint this weekend and I'll probably assemble furniture (just the bed and dresser) early next week.

The furniture was a light stained oak, I believe (remember, this was back in the late 80's, early 90's. LOL).

Sorry it took so long to get these posted but things have been a bit crazy around here. I'm short on decor for sure, especially on the walls, but I was most concerned with painting and getting furniture assembled in time. Not sure how good the color is in these pics because the screen on my laptop leaves a lot to be desired. In reality the paint is much more purple than blue.

This is looking in from the hall. I bought a changing table with drawers because it went with the bed but I just chucked the changing pad and am using it as a dresser.

Here's a front view of the dresser and mirror along side. The flower light above gives a nice pink/red glow that makes an excellent night light.

The seat/box under the window is a storage piece from Ikea that we are using as a toy box. I like it because the lid slides rather than lifts. You can't see it in this pic but the curtain rod has these pretty pink globe finials.

She can sleep in a regular bed without issue but flops around much less in a smaller one. Plus I thought this bed was so pretty. :shifty

Here's her lamp. I like it because you can set it to illuminate 2, 3, or all 5 bulbs. 2 is more than enough to brighten the room. To the right is the closet which is currently empty.

I've also ordered two canvas toy bags, one green and one pink, but they haven't arrived yet.

Thanks everyone. Now that I'm looking at the pics on a monitor that has been color calibrated I'm rolling my eyes at how the wall color looks different in every picture. I think the last one is probably the most accurate though I would say in reality it is a bit more purple than that. There is part of me that wants to color correct all of the photos now but something tells me that's not what my company is paying me for. :shifty

I did some minor color correction (I had to referesh twice to get the updated photos to show on my screen) because I was going crazy looking at them how they were. :O There wasn't much I could do with the first two, but the last 3 look fairly accurate to me.
