brown sugar substitute?--edited

what would be a healthier alternative to brown sugar in something like choc. chip cookies?

eta: anyone every subbed in date sugar? i just bought this on a whim the other day and have never had it so i don't know how it cooks up, but someone online said they'd used that before...

I really like sucanat. It is a little less refined and can be substituted cup for cup.

I use evaporated cane juice as a sub for my regular sugar (cup for cup). For brown sugar, I add 1 TBS molasses for every cup of evaporated cane juice that's supposed to be brown.
