So, I was just over at our neighbours' (they farm the land around our acreage) and I got the scoop on why Roundup hasn't been killing my dandilions. It's so simple I don't know why it didn't dawn on us before. We've always spot sprayed them in the spring and/or summer because that's when we're planting and tending the garden. Well, in the spring (duh) the plant is using it's stored energy up from the root to produce the leaves and flowers. Chemical will stall the plant, but you won't get a full kill. To get a full kill with one application of the chemical, apply in the fall when the dandilion is pushing it's energy stores down into the roots. Ah ha! So I don't have super weeds!
My neighbour and I have decided to have dandilion digging parties until fall. Instead of inviting each other over for coffee, we spend equal time in each others' yards digging weeds. Much better than digging alone, lol. :)
