Wow! Talk about ahead of the game HL. Have you tried them sauteed in butter? I was surprised to find a couple of recipes for radishes cooked and people said they were yummy.

Cool! I'm not sure I like them or not. Tried them when I was a kid and went :crazy2 But I may like them now!

Next year i'm planting less fruiting plants so i can harvest earlier and plant more things. I would love to have something to pull up right now ;)

We eat them as a condiment. I slice them on sandwiches and add them chopped to meals. Dh just eats them along his meal. I always wondered if it was ok to add them to soup. :think

Martha's recipe was straightforward enough, just radishes with greens still attached sliced lengthwise. Then she melted butter and put the radishes in cut side down and let them cook undisturbed until they were caramelized.

I've seen some recipes on foodtv.com where they do watercress and radish quarters sauteed and there's at least one recipe in the book Vegetables where radishes are cooked as well. I've always been curious to try them but haven't remembered to get some LOL.

I like radish sandwiches- slather on a thick bit of butter, top with the most thin slices of radish you can manage- yum!!

Hubby loves radishes cut up and sprinkled with salt. I bet I'd even like them sauteed in butter. :)

Tonight dh had them with dinner again. He took 3 really big ones and then wondered why they were spicy. :scratch Aren't radishes always spicy? :scratch He seems to feel that they were spicier than most. I told him that it was because they were fresher. :shrug

radishes are supposed to be spicy. Was he thinking of turnips? :shifty

It can also depend on the variety you plant too IIRC :)

Yeah, my favorite are french breakfast radishes- still spicy, but milder.

He's used to the ones we buy in the store. :shrug Some are spicier than others, I guess.

Just got radishes in my CSA box today, I think I'll try sauteeing them, it's the only hope I have of getting anyone in my family to try them.

They look LOVELY!

My (current) favorite way to eat radishes:
1 lb radishes, sliced thin
4 large navel oranges - cut off peel with knife and remove sections - do this over a bowl so you collect the juice that comes out when removing the sections
4 scallions, chopped
salt
1/4 tsp.cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ginger (dried, or a bit more if fresh)
2-3 TBS Olive oil
Mix everything well in bowl with the orange juice.

Keeps about a day in the fridge. :yum The perfect savory/sweet salad.

We just eat them on the side with meals and sandwiches. :shrug3 I'm out, but should have more in a few weeks. :)
