View Full Version : Sites to help me design a room?

I've been wanting to re-do the kid's playroom. Right now it's sort of drab and uninspired. The walls are white, there isn't great storage... Actually my plan is to turn the room into a dual bedroom/play area for my two older girls. So I need it to house a bunk bed set and toys. But preferrably organized in such a way that it doesn't look over crowded.

Does anyone know of any sites that can help me design it? I need color inspiration and ideas. Right now, about the only concrete idea I have is to install a wall mounted book shelf. Similar to this (http://www.marthastewart.com/photogallery/organizing-by-room?rsc=hol_Homepage_Homepage):

One of my husband's co-worker's wives (hows that for six degrees?) is the most amazing decorator. I've thought about calling her up, except I think I heard recently she's charging for her services.

Anybody here wanna help me make choices? I'm going to have to start small. But am hoping by this summer to have everything done.

I actually had a dream about that book case I love it so much. :lol Now I just need to sit down and figure out the cost of purchasing the wood. I'm sure it won't be that expensive. A couple of strong dowels, some lengths of wood...

I wanted to add some pictures of the room as it is now. (Well, almost how it is now. Because right now the girls have their stuffed animals lying about.) If this thread needs to be moved to the pictures thread, then I understand. I'm just hoping that by being in this forum I might get some help/feedback.

So, without further ado, my "before" images:

I'm considering installing the bookshelf between the closet door and the door to the rest of the house:

That brown square is actually a mirror. In our rental I had it mounted on the wall under a window. The girls liked to sit on the floor and preen. I haven't hung it this time because I keep telling myself I'm going to paint. Well, a year has passed and it sits in that spot. I think the girls don't even see it anymore. lol.

What a nice clean palate to start with.... most things are white, so you can do any color.... how about "pottery barn kids"? They have pictures of playrooms, maybe you could get some color ideas there to start :shifty

Rate My Space (ratemyspace.hgtv.com) has a section for girls rooms. Maybe perusing them will give you some ideas. I've found several decorating ideas for my house there. Plus I love look at other people's houses.
