So now Janet has me wanting to go to IKEA. :giggle I don't have the $ right now with new house expenses and all, but I'm making plans! Show me/tell me about your favorite IKEA purchases. I'm especially interested in storage for the kid's rooms... and fun stuff for them or me!

I'll have to come back with links, dh packed the card reader so I can't download pics for the next couple of weeks.

But my fav thing at Ikea I can't take a pic of b/c I don't have any currently-- their cinnamon rolls. :yum

We bought this bedframe(in oak) for my younger sister when she moved in with us a few years ago. It was pretty sturdy, which surprised me for the price we paid. Being able to try out assembled pieces in the store is critical (to me at least) because some of their stuff can be a bit flimsy.

I can't take an actual pic of the bed we bought because my sis took it with her when she moved out.

A couple of my favorite pieces are now discontinued. Like our bed frame, and the dresser in my girls' bedroom - it has served as our 'baby dresser' and change table for 6 years now.

My whole bedroom, and my girls' bedroom is almost entirely Ikea...including decor. :)

Our living room couches are from Ikea:

These pics are pre-current configuration, but you get the idea. :) The couches are almost two years old and in excellent condtion.

We have an easel & an abacus from there which we use in homeschooling on a very regular basis.

We also have four of these in various sizes- one in the classroom, three in the family room.
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60071358

We use two Ikea coffee tables for desks in the classroom.

I have two of their white boards for notes in the kitchen.

dh has a desk from them in his office which is no longer used. :/ I can't figure out which one it is online.

We also have assorted things from there- bins for toys, the kids cups & bowls, a basket in the bathroom, my laundry hampers......

I :heart IKEA. It's very affordable and in my experience, the products are very well-made. We have the following from IKEA:
-son's youth bed and canopy (his room is like 8' X 8' if that, so this is a perfect size)
-various hanging organizer-type thingamabobs
-my wardrobe (which is actually from the infant department :jawdrop, my room is also small and the small size is great. Here's the link to that...http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80090474
-toy organizer for the living room (since his room is small and he always preferred to play in the living room)
-tall highchair for the dining room table
-and lots of odd and ends for storage, utensils, area rugs, patio umbrella, mirrors, etc

Yep, our couches are really low to the ground. When Gina was a puppy she could barrrely make it under - now there is NO way she could get under there. They are probably 6 inches from the ground?

This is going to be such fun when we go! Wow, if we ever had money for a new couch I would get it there- I love the idea of the washable and replaceable slip covers! :cool :rockon

Ds would LOOOOVE that kids stuff. What # of plastic are those small tumblers? :think

mamaKristin

We have the plates, bowls and cutlery to match the cups. they are #5 plastic. :)

Katigre
04-17-2008, 04:36 PM
Yep, all the plastic I posted is #5 which is the safest type - i really like the dishes, they're a great size for kids and would also work well as play dishes. The only thing IKEA doesn't make is a play kitchen - i bet they could design a pretty cool wooden one for a good price.

The last time we were at Ikea they had a playkitchen. :think I can't remember what the total cost was...

Drew- is that bed frame super heavy to move?

:yes It was actually quite heavy. It comes in 4 main parts (plus slats and such) but even those were heavy in my opinion.

That was a problem we had when looking at bed frames (for us) there. My DH is ~6' 2" so low profile furniture is a problem for him.

I don't have it yet...but I've been planning on getting this as sensory play "equipment" for the living room.

Just measured - floor to bottom of couch is 3 inches, floor to top of seat cushion is 17 inches. :) I'm 5'10 and Hubby is 5'11 - they are really "deep" seats and fit us both well. My Dad was just visiting and he's 6'5 and seemed ok on them too. :) Hubby and I both try to snuggle on the chaise part of the couch anyway - so our feet never touch the ground. :giggle
