Repairing wood furniture?

So, do any of you mamas do regular wood repair on your hard wood furniture? I have a kitchen table that needs some repair work, due to scratches and a couple of deep gouges. I've googled some information on fixing these issues, but I always like to hear what real people do.

Any wood repair advice? :grin
